The authorities of Yakutia are organizing a car tour of over 2 thousand km long to the Pole of Cold in Oymyakon of Yakutia for foreign tourists. Tourists will get acquainted with the culture and way of life of reindeer herders, take part in ice fishing and swim in ice-free sources at the Cold Pole, the tourist information center ‘Yakutia’ reports.
"The event tour is a car journey as part of a rally-raid, tourists for a few days overcome about 2 thousand km (Yakutsk - Oymyakon - Yakutsk). They will pass the Yakut purification rite, get acquainted with the culture and way of life of the northern peoples, meet with the Yakut Lord of the Cold Chyskhaan. The festival will be held March 21 - 25," the center notes.
As explained by the organizers, the participation of foreign tourists, including those from the APR countries, is expected. According to their data, about 1 thousand tourists visited Oymyakon last year. Most of them are tourists from China, France, Germany, Japan, Great Britain, and the USA. “The trip allows guests of Yakutia to see as many features of this region and its best representatives as possible for the optimal period of time. I recommend visiting the village of Yuchyugey, where you can observe the life of reindeer herders, try your luck in ice fishing and swim in the ice-free waters of Oymyakon," said Minister of Investment Development and Entrepreneurship of the region Anton Safronov.
The Pole of Cold in the Northern Hemisphere is located, according to one version, in the Tomtor area of the Oymyakon District of Yakutia. In February 1933, they recorded a temperature of minus 67.7 degrees Celsius. The average monthly temperature in January is minus 61 degrees C - at such a low temperature people live and work.
