The peoples of the North have always been distinguished by their authentic culture, the beginning of which lies beyond millennia
However, the preservation of the folklore heritage of the indigenous peoples of the North of Yakutia is now in a critical situation. This was noted by Il Tumen deputy, Head of the Association of Indigenous Peoples of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), People's writer of Yakutia Andrei Krivoshapkin in his report at 7th Congress of Indigenous Peoples of the North, recently held in Yakutsk.
"I have already spoken about the Theater of Indigenous Peoples. This is the most important achievement of the whole Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). We must support the Theater. It has many plans, I hope its troupe will expand, and eventually it will have its own house. I hope that the Theater of the Indigenous People will become one of the amazing landmarks of our republic," he said.
"The situation requires that the parliament of the republic legislatively support the development of ethnic culture of the indigenous people of the RS (Y) in the localities," the deputy said.
Krivoshapkin also proposed the establishment of a state repository of folklore of the indigenous small-numbered peoples of the North, and to establish grants "Living Treasures of the Intangible Heritage of the Peoples of the North" to support folklore bearers. "Following the example of targeted support for the Yakut epic Olonkho, it is possible to develop and adopt a targeted program to preserve the folklore heritage of the indigenous small-numbered peoples of the North of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia)," he said.
