Rector of the North-Eastern Federal University Evgenia Mikhailova and the governor of the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug, Roman Kopin, signed an agreement on cooperation that consolidated relations between Chukotka and the federal university. The main goal of the agreement is scientific and educational support for the implementation of the Strategy for Science and Technology Development of the Russian Federation and the Strategy for the Social and Economic Development of the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug until 2030.
According to the administration of the Chukotka branch of the NEFU, within the framework of cooperation, the government of Chukotka is expected to support and participate in innovative activities and comprehensive scientific research of the university aimed at developing the productive forces and social sphere of the Autonomous Okrug, including the preservation of the language and culture of the indigenous people of the North.
"It is planned to open an engineering center and small innovative enterprises in the near future, to provide access to high-speed Internet and conduct regional and international scientific and practical conferences. The Institute, as a structure of a federal university of a new type, has a high potential for carrying out research, design and experimental, experimental and technological and expert works," said Director of the Chukotka branch of the NEFU Sergei Popov.
Also, according to the head of the educational unit of the NEFU, the branch will expand the training of qualified personnel for the economy, will provide conditions for continuing education of the inhabitants of Chukotka and update the list of educational programs implemented by the branch. "Now we have started to develop a new concept and development program, which, after preliminary broad discussion, will be approved at a joint meeting of the government and the Duma of the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug," Sergei Popov said.
