Yakutia receives Oscar

In Moscow, 5th Congress on Environmental Protection awarded the winners of Green Russia-2017 competitions.

As a result of the environmental contest, the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) entered the Gold Reserve. Minister of Nature Protection of Yakutia Sakhamin Afanasiev received the National Ecological Oscar from Chairman of the Green Russia All-Russian Ecological Public Movement Konstantin Kurchenkov.

Konstantin Kurchenkov noted that the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) is a region from which one can follow the example of a careful attitude to nature.

"This is the most environmentally friendly region of our country. This spring I was lucky to visit Yakutia, there live the most genuine enthusiasts of nature protection, they set a good example in volunteering and mentoring. Love of nature among the Yakut people is taken in with mother's milk and this is really commendable," Kurchenkov said.

In turn, Sakhamin Afanasiev stressed that Yakutia is one of the most active participants in the events of Green Russia.

"This year, within the framework of the All-Russian Green Russia Subbotnik, over 5,000 subbotniks were held across the country with the participation of 173,000 people," the minister said.

It should be noted that the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) annually takes prizes in the competitions of Green Russia and Vernadsky Ecological Foundation. In 2013, Year of Environmental Protection of the Russian Federation, Yakutia won the main award of international environmentalists - Global Eco Brand Award in the nomination of Ecoleader.
