The ice fishing season has started in main fishing regions of Yakutia, with fishermen having moved to fishing spots. Rosrybolovstvo, the Russian fishing agency, set the republic's quota on commercial fishing in 2014 at 5,295 tons.
As of today, the commercial fishing has yeilded 2,175 tons, reaching 50% of the plan (4,850 tons). Experts note that due to the seasonal nature of fishing, a large amount is caught at the end of the year.
During the summer navigation, when the catch from the Arctic and Northern regions was carried away by refrigerator vessels, the fisheries sold 947 tonnes of fish.
