In January 2017 the caravan of ships led by the atomic icebreaker "50 Years of Victory" completed its passage by the Northern Sea Route in the Western direction.

The caravan consisted of "Shturman Ovtsyn" Arctic shuttle tanker of Sovkomflot and motor vessels, Audax and Arctic-1.

The sea passage started in the Bering Strait on December 21, 2016 and reached the Kara Sea, where ended on January 3, 2017. The total distance was about 2.4 thousand marine miles.

The caravan crossed the Northern Sea Route in the polar night and difficult ice conditions.

“Shturman Ovtsyn” is one of the Arctic shuttle tankers, ordered by Sovkomflot under long-term contract with Gazprom Neft. They are designed to deliver crude oil from the Yamal Peninsula to the port of Murmansk in terms of year-round navigation.
