On Thursday, March 17, Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio published a photo of Yakut ‘Oscar’ in Instagram.

On March 16 it became known that a silver statuette made in Yakutia, by analogy with Oscar, has already been given to DiCaprio.

By the day of the Oscars in the United States (February 28) a statuette of Yakutia was completely ready. Jeweler Ruslan Neustroev was engaged in manufacturing the award. In size it has turned out the same as a real Oscar. The precious metal was gathered from all Yakutia, almost one and a half kilograms of silver and three grams of gold.

DiCaprio has received Oscar for Best Actor in The Revenant. Before that, he received an Oscar nomination five times, once as a producer for The Wolf of Wall Street.  The Oscars set a record in the Twitter: after the announcement of his name the users have written more than 440,000 tweets per minute.

leonardodicaprioThank you to the people of Yakutia for this wonderful gift, especially all of the women who gathered and donated the materials that went into creating the statue. As they wrote in their letter, Yakutia is home to the coldest inhabited place not only in Russia, but also on Earth – and the region is extremely vulnerable to climate change. Rising temperatures pose a major threat to its people, their way of life and their natural habitat.#Russia#ClimateChange#Earth#Yakutia#ActOnClimate
