China is going to attract Russian design and civil engineering institutes to develop proposals for the implementation of a bridge across the Lena River in Yakutia, reports the press service of Investment Agency of Yakutia.
Sinohydro Chinese Company has entered into an agreement with the Chinese Design Institute of China Railway Major Bridge Reconnaissance & Design Institute Co., Ltd on the implementation of pre-work and development of the general plan in collaboration with Russian design and building institutes, together with which the construction of the bridge across the Lena will be conducted. Now corporations will select Russian design and civil institutes. Today the two parties are discussing the technical details of future construction and cost estimates. The estimated cost of the bridge is 56-60 billion rubles.
Construction is scheduled to finish in 2022. The bridge (21 kilometers long) will connect Yakutsk with railway. The bridge will provide year-round access to 20% of the inaccessible areas of the republic. It is expected that the annual volume of cargo transportation in the republic will triple to 6 million tons through the bridge.
